Three people were seriously injured in an accident, which involved 15 vehicles along Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The victims who included a woman and conductors are admitted at Ravine district hospital, all in critical condition.

The accident occurred Monday at Matharu trading centre some 50 Km from Eldoret town.

Witnesses said two trailers collided head-on before one overturned.

"One of the trailers overturned and landed on two vehicles trapping the passengers beneath it," said a witness who identified himself only as James.

Most of the victims sustained head and chest injuries, witnesses said.

The accident caused a heavy traffic jam, which stretched over 10Km on the busy highway.

Uasin Gishu OCPD Paul Kiogora confirmed the incident and said the presence of mist hindered visibility on the road.

"Several vehicles continued to ram onto the trailers because drivers could not see the stationary vehicles due to poor visibility," said Kiogora.

Wreckages of the vehicles littered the section of the road, as police were yet to arrive at the scene to tow them away.

The OCPD said that the vehicles would be towed to police station as they conduct investigations into the accident.

Residents said the two Kilometre stretch has claimed several lives and want the ministry of Public works to erect bumps to check the rising accidents.
