Armed thugs kill woman in Likoni, Mombasa

MOMBASA, KENYA: A woman was shot dead and two other people seriously injured by armed robbers in Likoni Mombasa County on Monday night.

The woman was killed after she resisted orders to part away with money.
Police reported on Tuesday that armed men riding on motorcycle terrorised the area armed with guns for a period of two hours and raided three Mpesa shops and made away with money.
Esther Murunde 28, was shot thrice in the abdomen by the attackers who sped away with Sh90, 000.
Police said five spent cartridges were recovered from the scene and that they were tracking down the suspects who are said to have been terrorising Mpesa outlets attendants in the entire County.
The robbers are said to have also conducted two separate robberies just a few meters from Murunde' shop where they are said to have shot in the air several times to scare off the onlookers before stealing Sh70,000 and Sh20,000 respectively.
Asulta Omumbo claimed that the three armed men had threatened to kill her if she didn't surrender all the money she had in her possession.
Likoni Deputy OCPD Anthony Shimoli said the suspects were armed with a G3 rifle.
"We suspect that the same men carried out another robbery in Shikaadabu area where they made away with Sh20,000 after the attendant fearing for her life gave out the money to the robbers," said Shimoli.
The other victim Cecilia Maina had to part away withSh70,000 and she was spared before the robbers took off in their motorbike.
Police are yet to confirm if the G3 riffle used could be the one that was stolen after unknown men broke into one of the police officers house sometimes back in June this year, the rifle was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
It is reported that the officer had gone out of his house that fateful night and when he went back he found his door broken and his rifle missing.
