Construction of key Migori road on course to completion

Kenya: The construction of The Masara – Suna – Kehancha Road is on course to completion in early 2016, this is according to the project engineer Paul Onalo.

Onalo said that works on the project road were going on swiftly and they expected the works to be completed in 2016.

“The contract was awarded on 14th February 2013 and the contractor submitted the letter of acceptance on 20th February 2013, the contract agreement was signed by the Employer on 10th April 2013 and the project commenced in April 2014”, Eng Onalo said.

The Masara – Suna – Kehancha Road is 47.1 km in length and is located in the County of Migori in the Lake Victoria Basin Western part of Kenya. The Masara – Suna – Kehancha road begins at the town centre of Masara on the Muhuru Bay to Suna road and joins the Kisii – Isebania road at Suna and ends at Kehancha Town.

The scope of works  to be undertaken include the construction of bitumen surfaced road  that is 6.5 m wide carriageway and 1.5 m wide shoulders on each side for a total length of 67.5 km.

Other works include, construction of junctions accesses, bus lay – bys and pedestrian footpaths, provision and erection of road furniture including road markings, bridges, box culverts and several pipe culverts.
