Notorious bhang trafficker arrested in Busia

Busia, Kenya: Police working on a tipoff from members of public arrested a middle aged woman with a haul of bhang with an estimated street value of over Sh1.2million at Muluanda in Samia Sub County.

The woman, Imelda Auma Okoth aged 44 is alleged to be one of the most notorious bhang traffickers in the area and police have been tracking her for a number of days. Two of her male accomplices managed to escape but are being pursued by the police.

Area Deputy County Commissioner Ali Khalif said police stormed the home of the suspect where they recovered four bags of unrefined bhang, suspected to have originated from a neighbouring country through one of the unofficial entry points along the border.

Khalif said security officers in the area have intensified patrols and intelligence gathering on criminal elements as part of Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) with a view of wiping out crime from the area. He also warned errant security agents who collaborate with criminals that stern action will be taken against them.

Cases of drug trafficking have been rampant in Busia County in the recent past owing to the porous borders where drug traffickers’ work in cohorts with the locals and dishonest government officials..

The DC appealed to the locals to work closely with the security personnel by providing necessary information to stump out criminal activities from the area.
