Standard celebrates International Women’s Day

The Standard Group and the Intercontinental Hotel organised a dinner party to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event that took place on Thursday night was attended by women in various professions.

Speakers called on women to remain true to the theme of this year’s International women’s Day: Connecting Girls, Inspiring futures.

President of Zawadi Africa and Director of Women’s Economic Empowerment Susan Mboya Kidero said a quarter of girls in the developing world are not in school. "One in seven girls in developing countries marries before the age of 15, and 38 per cent before age 18," she said.

Standard Group’s Managing Editor, Magazines, Zipporah Musau promised that Eve Sisters would traverse institutions to mentor girls. Musau said it was important that young girls are educated on career paths and the challenges facing women.

Radio Africa Marketing Manager and renowned Radio Presenter Caroline Mutoko challenged women to inspire young people to develop their potential.
