The grenade that killed an Administration Police officer in Eastleigh last Friday was in the vehicle, a preliminary report by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and local detectives has said .
The report handed over to Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere indicates the explosive was under the passenger’s seat on which Corporal Erastus Kamau was seated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Francis Okonya confirmed Mr Iteere had received the report, but said they will need to carry out further investigations. "We hope to make an announcement soon."
FBI detectives arrived on Saturday and embarked on the investigation following a request by Mr Iteere. They are, however, yet to know the origin of the grenade. Their conclusion was arrived at after a safety pin of the explosive was found in the vehicle that Kamau was travelling in.
The findings ruled out earlier reports an unknown person dropped the grenade into the vehicle before it went off, killing Kamau and injuring his driver.
