Four musicians have been awarded the prestigious Head of State Commendation (HSC) awards in recognition of their contribution to the industry.

Ministry of National Heritage PS Jacob ole Miaron presented the awards to John Nzenze, David Ndung’u, Conrad Karukenya (Tiger Power) and John Katana at a ceremony organised by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission.

Commending the musicians, Miaron said his ministry was committed to honouring musicians who promote local music.

Spirit of mentorship

"The Government recognises the efforts and role musicians play in developing the country," said Miaron.

He also called on the prominent musicians to mentor the budding ones.

John Katana, of ‘Them Mushrooms Band’, said the awards are a great motivation and a show of Government’s appreciation of the music industry players.

Meanwhile, Miaron said the Government is planning to hold a National Training Camp to train upcoming artistes.
