Reverend Lucy Natasha sparked online debate after publicly praying for Ida Odinga following her appointment as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme.

Ida, a Canon in the Anglican Church of Kenya and a seasoned political figure, accepted the appointment by President William Ruto, terming it an honour to serve. Her new diplomatic role has since dominated conversations across political, religious and social platforms.

Adding a spiritual dimension to the milestone, Natasha, Senior Pastor of Empowerment Christian Church, shared a video of a special church prayer dedicated to Ida.

In the caption, she wrote: “Praying for H.E Ida Odinga, Kenya’s ambassador & Permanent Representative to UNEP.”

During the service, Natasha invoked divine favour and guidance, describing the appointment as more than a personal achievement.

“May God grant you strength, wisdom and lasting impact. We thank God for raising a strong and visionary woman in our nation and our time,” she prayed.

She further underscored the national importance of the diplomatic posting.

“And I know Mama Ida Odinga’s appointment is not just a personal honour but it is a national significance. Father we pray divine wisdom, may you grant Mama Ida Odinga supernatural wisdom,” she said.

The prayer also extended to Ida’s anticipated global engagement in the new role.

“We pray for global influence; let her voice carry weight among nations,” Natasha added.

The clip quickly circulated online, drawing mixed reactions. Supporters praised the gesture as a show of unity and faith, while critics debated the symbolism of religious leaders publicly affirming political appointments.
