KPA issues job scam alert as it announces many vacancies

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has issued a warning against fake job adverts circulating in the social media.

The government agency says fraudsters are misusing its name in soliciting for many in non-existing 140 jobs targeting diploma and degree holders.  “We wish to clarify that KPA has a clear recruitment policy which includes publishing of vacancies in the mainstream newspapers and on our website. Members of the public are therefore asked to ignore messages circulating on social media and other online platforms,” said KPA.

In what is becoming a challenge to many job seekers, fraudsters are using social media channels to con unsuspecting Kenyans of money in exchange of employment.

At the beginning of 2019, fake job adverts circulated seeking to recruit personnel for the census exercise set toward s the end of the year.

The Kenya National Bureau of Standards noted that the people behind the fake job advert are fraudsters and conmen posing as employees of the Bureau for their selfish gains.

“We caution the public to be wary of such individuals who purport to be recruiting on   behalf of the Bureau.”

Meanwhile the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is seeking to recruit a number of personnel to boost its operations. In the engineering services division, the corporation has vacancies for head of marine engineering, principal terminal engineer, senior engineer senior mechanical superintendent and senior mechanical handling inspector.

Several vacancies are also in the operations division, finance division, corporate services division, board and legal services division, security services department, human resources and administration and the infrastructure development division.
