TURKANA, KENYA: Tullow Oil Company plans to drill three more oil wells in Turkana County in the second half of 2017.

In a press statement, the company said it will be focusing on Ekales, Ngamia 11 and Etete wells that are currently under evaluation.

The company said the drilling of the wells will be used to test an undrilled fault block adjacent to the Ekales field.

"The Ngamia-11 appraisal well will be drilled and completed for use in an extended water flood pilot test in conjunction with the Early Oil Pilot Scheme (EOPS) and the Etete exploration well is planned to test a prospect adjacent to the Greater Etom structure," read the statement in part.

Mark Macfarlane, the Executive Vice President for East Africa said that there were new discoveries in the Kenya's North.

"We have made good progress with our exploration and appraisal programme in Kenya. We have new discoveries at Erut and Emekuya, and we will update the market on the resources in the South Lokichar basin as the current E and A campaign concludes," said Macfarlane.

The company said that the first discovery was made in January 2017 at Erut-1, which proved that oil has migrated to the northern limit of the South Lokichar basin.

"The second discovery was made in May 2017 at Emekuya-1 where significant oil sands were encountered, according to the company.

"This demonstrated oil charge across a significant part of the Etom structure and further de-risked the northern area of the basin."

The company stated that water injection testing was successful at Amosing and Ngamia fields.

Drilling of new wells will proceed despite the suspension of the Early Oil Pilot Scheme EOPS that was scheduled for May this year pending the passage of the Energy Bill.

The company is the process of transporting oil to test its reaction to temperatures, its viability and quality.
