Ulinzi Plot Raid

Kenya Premier League (KPL) resumes tomorrow (Saturday) after one-week break and this weekend’s fixtures provide a number of sumptuous pairings.

Leaders Ulinzi Stars play away to Mahakama, one of the bottom of the table teams, in a 5pm kick off at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

This will be one of the two double headers at the Stadium. The other is Gor Mahia’s tie with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), which kicks off at 7pm. Both matches will be aired live on SuperSport.

Ulinzi have a chance to extend their lead at the top to five points and is one opportunity they will want to make good use of.

Going for the soldiers is the fact that they are one of the two teams in the league who have won the highest number of matches with 22 rounds of matches played.

Ulinzi have won half of their fixtures so far and will be keen to improve the statistics. They have everything going for them. An experienced back force revolving around Hussein Mohammed and Mulinge Ndetto will prove un-beatable for the struggling Mahakama.

start winning

Upfront, left-footed Lawrence Owino is always a threat to many defenders and with Tom Ogweno they will pose a serious threat to Mahakama.

This is, however, one match that Ulinzi may not come off easily considering Mahakama desperately need to start winning to be assured of surviving relegation axe.

With just eight match matches to go before the league comes to an end, every tie counts for the 15th placed Mahakama and they are expected to fight tooth and nail against Ulinzi.

Will Gor discover their winning streak? That will be big question when they take on KCB in the second match of the day.

Gor need to win to remain in contention for the title after being held to a barren draw by Red Berets two weeks ago, a result that brought to a screeching halt their winning streak over five matches.

Second-placed Tusker hopes to stay in touch with the leaders when they host Sony Sugar at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

The match will kick off at 7pm and is one of the two double headers at the venue. The first match kicks off at 5pm and pits bottom-placed Chemelil against champions Sofapaka on Sunday.
