Four school boys who vandalised desks to construct rabbit hutches rewarded

Four boys were found at Jamhuri Primary School in Thika vandalizing
desks to get timber that they would later use to construct rabbit hutches.
They explained their intentions to police officers who opted
not to punish them.
According to Ruiru DCC Geoffrey Githinji, the boys were
looking for something to keep them busy at home and only needed someone to
advise them that their actions were wrong.
“They are so innovative and they probably wanted something
to keep them busy during this period.
“We unanimously decided to help them,” he said.

The approach was wrong but their intention was not bad.”
Three Deputy County Commissioners including Douglas Mutai
(Thika West), Githinji (Ruiru) and Rose Chege (Githunguri) decided that the parents
would repair the desks and the boys would be given rabbits.
Mutai said they would aid the boys’ hustle and he fulfilled
his promise as each of the boys was given a hutch and two rabbits, a buck and a
doe.
According to Dotty Mwangi, a parent of one of the boys, the
approach used was wrong but the decision of the three DCCs was very thoughtful.
