A Kenyan-Canadian film that tells the story of a village genius whose algorithm attracts powerful forces has been making waves on the international film circuit. This has seen it earning critical acclaim at prestigious awards ceremonies.
Shot across both Canada and Kenya, the film tells the story of Kipkemboi, a young mathematical genius from rural Kenya.
After his father's death, Kipkemboi forgoes a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to support his family.
Inspired by a book on stock trading given to him by his girlfriend, Chipchirchir, he develops an algorithm that successfully manipulates the stock market, bringing wealth to his community. His actions attract the attention of international financiers and local authorities, leading to his arrest on suspicion of terrorism.
