It's Nairobi United and not Gor who'll play in Confed Cup

Nairobi United are the 2025 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup champions.

The National Super League (NSL) champions edged record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia 2-1 in the final at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.

After being promoted to the Premier League, Nairobi United proved that they are ready to dance with the big boys after they humbled the most-decorated club on Kenyan soil.

To get to the final, Nairobi United eliminated last year's losing finalists KCB, 2023 champions Kakamega Homeboyz, 2016 champions Tusker and Mara Sugar to set up a date with Gor Mahia.

Their sweet victory rendered Gor Mahia's season trophy-less as the club's sole hope for a title was on the Cup, having fallen short in the league title defence.

Goals from Frank Ouya and Enock Machaka were enough to down a determined Gor Mahia, who got their consolation through on-loan midfielder Ben Stanley Omondi.

The victory, not only earned Nairobi their first-ever major title, but also a Sh2 million cash prize and a historic ticket to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Meanwhile, the final was clouded with instances of match violence after Gor Mahia fans had to be dispersed with tear gas and rubber bullets.

After the final, Gor fans invaded the pitch forcing players and technical bench to flee towards the changing room.

The fans followed the players in to the changing room prompting the security officers to disperse the crowd with tear gas.
