Leaders condemn killing of locals at ADC land

Elected leaders in Trans Nzoia have condemned the killings of innocent people by National Police Reservists guarding Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farms.

Led by governor George Natembeya, the leaders said there was a need to review the existence of such a State corporation that has occupied extensive public land for decades, yet has little to show for the resource.

"They have no shame that even payment of salaries to their own workers is a challenge and cannot even motivate its workers during the festive season," lamented the county chief.

The governor said a time will come when they will push for the State agency to give out 32,000 acres of its land to the public and remain with only 2,000 acres which they can manage effectively.

Endebess MP Robert Pukose castigated what they termed as NPRs' incessant harassment of innocent residents of Kwanza and Endebess sub-counties.

Speaking at Amani Primary School in Saboti Constituency during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, Pukose asked the County Commissioner, Mbogai Rioba to take action against rogue police reservists before MPs take up the matter.

"We will not condone such acts of NPRs killing innocent residents. Lately, cattle rustling has gone down so if they cannot use their guns well then reduce their numbers," said Pukose.

The Endebess legislator regretted the recent shooting of a 17-year-old boy while collecting leftover maize from an ADC farm in his constituency.
