Detectives in Nakuru are investigating the death of an elite squad police officer reportedly killed by thugs on Saturday.
Constable Harrison Onywoki Onwonga, according to a police report seen by The Standard, was attached to Ruiru Recce squad.
Nakuru police commander Peter Mwanzo said the officer, 30, was in the company of his two brothers when the attack happened.
"Hezron Onwonga, 54, reported the attack at Kaptembwo Police Station via OB number 5/4/12/2022. He said they were walking to their home from town when the attack happened," said Mwanzo. He said the three were coming from a family meeting within Nakuru town when they were attacked at Mazembe.
"They were attacked at a dark corridor within the Mazembe area by five suspects armed with crude weapons," said Mwanzo.

The police boss said the three staged a fight against the thugs but were overpowered. They suffered injuries as the gang made away with their mobile phones.
"The victims raised alarm prompting police officers on patrol to respond. They were taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital," said Mwanzo.
"The scene of the incident has been processed. We are investigating the attack and hope to bring the culprits to book soon," said Mwanzo.
