5,000 AP officers to keep peace in 2027 elections

Approximately 5,000 Administration Police officers will be deployed to join other officers to keep peace during the 2027 general election, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has said.

This, he said is part of ensuring the Kenyans exercise their civic duty without any security challenges.

IG Kanja made the remarks during the full-dress rehearsal of recruits who have been training at Embakasi AP college for nine months and set for a pass out parade on September 4, 2026.

“As the country prepares for this period, we are all aware that elections are an important season in our constitutional democracy. To safeguard this process, your allegiance must always be to the Constitution of Kenya and the law. You should remain politically neutral at all times,” Kanja told the officers

Adding, “You are called upon to execute the duties of a police officer faithfully and firmly for the National Police Service to guarantee a peaceful, secure and orderly electioneering environment,”

At the same time Kanja challenged the officers to uphold all the values and the positive culture instilled in you during their training period.

“Your service must therefore be anchored in the rule of law and respect for human rights, and it must be characterized by the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability,” Kanja stated

The IG also challenged the officers to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills so as to deal effectively with ever-evolving security challenges.

“The security environment changes with technological, socio-economic, cultural and political developments,”

As part of security preparation, the Inspector General recently told the officers who served in Haiti that they will play a key role in keeping peace in 2027.

 Kanja hailed the officers for managing to restore peace in the country and challenged them to be ready to use the experience gained to protect Kenyans adding that the officers will be at the forefront in ensuring a peaceful environment during the 2027 general election.

"We are looking forward during our after-actual leaving to get the best in what we have acquired in terms of experience and see what is good for us," Kanja told the officers when they landed in the country after Haiti mission

The IG said the experience gained from the mission will also be used to improve training programs.
