Orengo is right, say Siaya Ward Reps amid ouster push

Siaya Governor James Orengo may be feeling the heat from a section of ODM leaders and Nyanza professionals calling for his impeachment, but several MCAs have dismissed the impeachment calls.

On Friday, a section of Siaya MCAs allied to the governor described the push for Orengo's impeachment as baseless and having zero ground for impeaching a governor.

They claimed the push to impeach Orengo is driven by selfish interests and has been sponsored.

"Telling fellow leaders the truth does not mean defiance. He has a right to speak out his mind as a Kenyan, and we should not therefore crucify him for that," said East Asembo MCA Gordon Onguru.

The lawmaker also termed the Luo Nyanza MPs as mourning more than the bereaved, while their counterparts from other regions are silent.

"Our MPs should ask themselves why they are the only ones making noise in this whole matter. We have not seen our party leader call out on Orengo and Sifuna over their remarks," he said.

His Yimbo East counterpart, Francis Otiato, said whatever the governor said is the truth. According to Otiato, it is the Raila-led ODM party that is keeping the government alive, but Nyanza counties, especially Siaya, have yet to benefit from the projects that the president promised to deliver.

"We have several stalled projects in Siaya, including the Dhogoye Bridge, Bondo-Nango-Liunda road and Siriwo Rice Milling plant, among others," said Otiato.

Speaking last week during the funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's aide George Oduor, Orengo said it was the right of the people of Siaya to receive development from the government.

On Wednesday by a group dubbed Ramogi Professional Caucus said the Luo community is united behind the Ruto-Raila pact for development.

"As a community, we are united and fully support the broad-based government. This is the only way we can ensure we develop economically. We cannot be in opposition forever," said Joshua Nyamori.
