One dead, eight injured in Homa Bay road accident

A 23-year-old man died and eight others were injured when a catering lorry overturned in Kendu Bay town, Homa Bay County, on Thursday morning.
The lorry was heading to Katito in Kisumu County from Homa Bay town when the driver lost control and veered off the Homa Bay-Katito highway.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Kendu Sub-County Hospital.
The other eight occupants of the lorry sustained serious injuries and were also rushed to the same hospital.
Rachuonyo North Sub-county Police Commander Lydia Parteiyie said they might be transferred to a Kisumu hospital for specialised treatment.

She urged motorists to exercise caution on the road during the festive season to avoid accidents.
“We are in a season where many road users are prone to being involved in accidents. Let all road users be careful on the road and abide by traffic rules all the time,” she said.
The police boss said the nine people were on their way to a ceremony when the accident occurred.
Their wrecked lorry was towed to Kendu Bay Police Station and the body was moved to Kendu Adventist Hospital mortuary at Gendia.
