Former KTN News anchor lands Judiciary role

Former Standard Group journalist Sophia Wanuna has been appointed the Head of Directorate of Public Affairs and Corporate Communication, at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Wanuna has worked at KTN News for 11 and a half years as a news reporter and anchor, program editor, and Deputy Broadcast Managing Editor.
In a statement by JSC on Thursday, May 4, Wanuna joins the Judiciary as a Deputy Director.
"Judicial Service Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophia Wananu as the Deputy Director and Head of the Directorate of Public Affairs and Corporate Communication which took effect from April 29, 2023. She brings a wealth of experience from the media as an established journalist and newsroom manager," the statement read.
Speaking to The Standard shortly after the announcement, the TV siren expressed her optimism as she takes up her new role in the third arm of government.

"It is a new dawn. I am grateful to God for the journey that I have had in the private sector. As I begin my journey in the public sector, I am bringing the same energy, same discipline, and spirit to JSC. I am ready to serve God and the country," she said.
Being the first to hold the JSC communication role, Wanuna believes that it is time to bridge the gap between media and JSC by giving out needed information and addressing all the questions from the media.
Wanuna has carved a niche throughout her journalism career becoming one of the few female political journalists in the country.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with a specialty in Public Relations from Daystar University.
The seasoned communication professional began her career at the Kenya Broadcasting Company in 2008 before joining Media Max for a year.
She later joined The Standard Group's KTN (which later transitioned to KTN News) and served for 11 and a half years.
She is well-known for her live reporting skills and punchy questions during her political interviews.
