NACADA raid pours out 20,000 liters of illicit alcohol in Mathare

A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has destroyed about 20,000 litres of illicit alcohol and dismantled brewing sites along the Mathare River in Mathare North.
The dawn operation, conducted with National Police Service officers from the Nairobi Region, destroyed more than 150 jerricans of kangara, 15 jerricans of chang’aa, over 30 metallic boiling tanks, and extinguished fires at 12 active brewing points.
Authorities said a crowd of illicit brew producers attempted to resist the raid, but no arrests were made as suspects fled into nearby slums.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa credited public tip-offs for the success of the operation.

“We have been receiving immense information from the public, and we thank Kenyans for being our eyes. Your collaboration is making it possible to dismantle these dangerous networks,” he said.
Omerikwa said the crackdown was part of the Interior Ministry’s 100-day Rapid Results Initiative, directed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, to curb illicit alcohol nationwide.
