Although many people dream, not all believe their dreams will come true. Not so for 13-year-old Peter Mberere. The Standard Six pupil from Baba Dogo Primary School in Nairobi has been hoping to manage a club since he started playing football in Standard Two and dream is becoming real each day.
Generation Next caught up with Mberere at Dandora Stadium where his team has been training for the Children Under-13 Championship that will be held in Norway in July. The Norway Cup is an annual championship and Mathare Youth Sports Association takes two teams — one for girls and another for boys.
Mberere is one of the players that has to impress the coach to get a slot in the final list.
“It is not easy to be a coach and at the same time a player. My team is called Jihad Sport and we usually train during the weekends. Since I started playing football, I have had a dream of managing my club and it is coming to reality as days go by. When am not in school training with the school team, I train for the trials. I want to go to Norway this year to encourage my players to work hard,” said Mberere.

He says the only problem facing his club is the lack of training equipment.
