County's demand for oil spill

Makueni’s list of demands that might cost KPC millions due to frequent oil spill.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has issued a list of demands to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) following the Kiboko natural springs oil spillage.

Top on his list was speedy medical examination of locals depending on Kiboko natural springs that was contaminated by the oil spill.

A week ago, the water was declared unfit for humans and animals. 

This comes after a stalemate rocked a meeting that brought KPC, locals, officials from Makueni county, Water Resource Authority (WRA) and National Environment and Management Authority, together last week.

KPC took issue with WRA’s lab results carried out at Central Water Testing Laboratory in Industrial area, Nairobi, that said Kiboko springs had high levels of oil and grease. 

KPC said they consulted an independent player who said the spring had "no contamination".

Kibwana said he would write a demand letter for locals to be compensated for loss of a livelihood.
