Hundreds of women in Eldoret staged a demonstration to protest over poor maternity services at a Government health facility in the area.

The irate women stormed Moiben health centre after a pregnant woman who had gone to deliver at the dispensary was allegedly turned away by a female nurse at night.

The nurse allegedly refused to attend to the woman who was in labour and instead asked her to seek medical help elsewhere.

The woman is said to have given birth at a bush moments after she was turned away from the dispensary.

The demonstrating women claim the newborn baby sustained an injury after falling on thorns in the bush.

It is said the woman and the newborn were stuck in the cold all night because no one had accompanied her to the dispensary.

Yesterday, the women led by area women leader Teresa Birgen, stormed the dispensary and demanded action be taken against the nurse as this had become a common occurrence.
