James Finalys sells 600ha of land to locals

Residents of South Rift region will from today start buying shares in the 600ha (1500 acres) of land being offered by a leading multinational tea company.

James Finlays Tea Company Ltd has reached an agreement with Kipsigis Highlands Multipurpose Co-operative Society to buy the land inform of shares valued at Sh420 million.

The company management has invited the Kipsigis community to acquire shares in the farm, which covers parts of Chemamul and Bondet tea estates situated in Konoin and Bureti districts respectively.

Officials of the society led by former ambassador Joshua Terer said they would buy the land comprising of four labour camps, a dispensary, social hall, primary school, murram roads, a dam and two managerial houses at Sh280,000 per acre.

Ambassador Terer Chairman Jeremiah Kenduiywa, Treasurer Joshua Talam and vice-chairman Jonah Langat accompanied Terer, who is the secretary.
