‘Yes’ director robbed as five carjackers killed

The director of the ‘Yes’ Campaign was hijacked and robbed, as police gunned down five carjackers.

Peter Kagwanja was driving in Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi’s car on the Nairobi-Murang’a highway when gunmen struck on Sunday night. Police said the ‘Yes’ official was with the minister’s driver.

They were later abandoned in Maragwa area after being roughed up by the thugs.

Central Provincial Police Officer John Kaua said no arrest had been made.

In Nairobi, five suspected thugs were killed in separate robbery attempts as police stepped up their war on armed crime.

Four of the suspects were shot dead and a gun recovered after their attempts to rob a motorist of his vehicle were stopped along the Southern by-pass in Karen.

Waylay motorists

Police recovered an AK 47 rifle loaded with 13 bullets and the salon car that the gunmen had seized.

According to police, the thugs had been waylaying and robbing motorists along the less busy by-pass before undercover officers were alerted and struck on Sunday evening.

Langata OCPD Augustine Kimantiri said the gunmen first fired at the Flying Squad officers who were patrolling the area, prompting a shootout that saw the four shot.

In Kibera slums, a gunman was cornered by a mob and stoned to death.

A gun was recovered from him on Sunday afternoon.
