Vinayak, Muigai lead Kenyan onslaught in Kampala this weekend

Fourteen Kenyan riders head to Kampala for the opening round of the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship in Garuga racetrack on Sunday.

This comes after some great action in last Sunday third round of the Kenya National Motocross series organised by the Rift Valley Motor and Sports Club.

This was the club’s first foray into motocross where 34 bike riders took part.

Leading the Kenyan assault in the Ugandan challenge is Cruze ‘Control’ Muigai who has since graduated to MX1 class and is riding his Yamaha 250 four-stroke machine.

Defending MX1 champion Shivam Vinayak will team up with Muigai in their bid to overcome the challenge of Uganda’s Asaf Natan and Arthur Blick Jnr. Blick is the son of the legendary Ugandan rider Arthur Blick, while Natan is an Israeli-born rider living in Uganda.

Hoping to shine

In the MX2 class, Kenya wil be hoping to shine courtesy of Tutu Maina and Ivan Guya. Maina is the current leader in MX2 class, while Guya is the outgoing champion in MX125 class.

Kenyans return to Uganda in August for the FIM Africa - MX African Nations Continental Championships in Kampala.

Also in the Kenyan team is Ivan Guya – the former MX125 champion – now riding in the MX2 class with Tutu.

MX125 leader Apollo Mbuki and Masalule Kituyi will be Kenya’s flag bearers in their competitive class.

There has been some good humoured rivalry between local and Ugandan spectators with both countries bantering over who has the last laugh on Sunday.

This has on many occasions been referred to as the battle for ‘Migingo Islands.’

Ugandans have been Kenya’s whipping boys over the past few years.
