Commonwealth Games: Wawira happy with rare bronze in para powerlifting

Kenya's Para Power-lifting champion Hellen Wawira is happy with her performance in Birmingham after winning for Kenya a medal off track and field at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Wawira won bronze for Kenya in the women's lightweight Para Power-lifting on Thursday night. She had a best lift of 97kg to finish third.

Wawira started off her attempts with 95kg which she successfully lifted before topping up to 97kg where she also lifted with ease.

Wawira collected 98.5 points to settle third behind Britons Zoe Newson and Olivia Broome, who downed 102.2 and 100.0 points to claim gold and silver respectively.

"Winning bronze is not an easy feat that you can achieve without hard work and determination and am thankful. My goal was always to win a Commonwealth medal at one point in life and am glad I have done it," Wawira said.
