Kisumu to host World Talent Federation Conference next year

[Washington Onyango,Standard] Kisumu has been selected as the host city for the World Talent Federation Conference in 2026, making history as the first intermediary city in Africa to do so in five decades. The announcement was made on Thursday during the ongoing Nyanza International Investment Conference in Kisumu. Delivering a keynote address at the conference, World Talent Federation Secretary General Prof. Humphrey Oborah confirmed that the event will be held in collaboration with the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB). According to Prof. Oborah, the gathering will attract a diverse group of global delegates from sectors such as sports, entertainment, and media. "This conference will bring together prominent figures, including top Premier League footballers from the United Kingdom, renowned musicians, and leading media executives from the United States," he stated. [Washington Onyango,Standard] Additionally, the event will provide a platform for researchers to showcase groundbreaking innovations and products that support talent assessments and talent-driven education. Prof. Oborah highlighted that the introduction of new technologies will play a crucial role in advancing talent-based learning systems. Beyond fostering innovation, the conference aims to promote tourism in Kenya. Plans are in place to collaborate with Kenya Railways or Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to organize a scenic caravan tour for the delegates. The journey will commence in Nairobi, pass through Hells Gate in Naivasha, include a flamingo-sighting experience at Lake Nakuru, and conclude in Kisumu. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Lake Victoria's islands, offering a unique and serene experience. "We will encourage residents of Kisumu and the wider LREB region with available housing to host delegates, allowing them to earn income from accommodation services," Prof. Oborah noted. With over 15,000 delegates expected to attend, participants will also enjoy the pristine beaches along the lake basin. Unlike traditional conferences held in high-end hotels, this event will take place within the community through strategic project partnerships. [Washington Onyango,Standard] "We plan to organize football clinics and music festivals, and we anticipate our partners to support initiatives like programs for gifted teenage mothers," he added. Prof. Oborah assured local communities of significant economic benefits from the event, emphasizing that Kisumu will gain global recognition as a key destination. Additionally, he highlighted a Ksh 5 billion project between Kisumu County and a Netherlands-based organization aimed at addressing recurrent flooding in the Nyando Basin. Through his global networks, Prof. Oborah introduced Trust 2 Impact, a Dutch organization, to spearhead sustainable flood mitigation measures in the region.
