Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, also known as Mathee wa Ngara, was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday.

Police reports indicate she was found in possession of an unspecified amount of bhang.

Kigunzu was apprehended on Friday morning by officers from the Anti-Narcotics and Transnational Organized Crime units.

A DCI source confirmed to The Standard that she was arrested at her apartment in Juja, Kiambu County where she hid.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the quantity and value of the drugs found.

Kigunzu already faces narcotics charges at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Court.

She was initially charged after her arrest in Ngara, Nairobi, in August 2023, where police recovered Sh13.1 million in cash and large quantities of bhang from her residence.

Although she was not immediately arrested, she later surrendered to the police at DCI headquarters on August 21, 2023.

After appearing in court, the businesswoman applied for bail before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). However, Magistrate Njeri Thuku ordered her detention as she was deemed a flight risk.

The magistrate also ruled on August 25, 2023, that the money recovered from her house be transferred to the Central Bank of Kenya.

Aggrieved, Mathe wa Ngara moved to the High Court, and in December 2023, the court released her on a Sh1 million bond, and ordered her to surrender her passport to the state.

She is expected to be presented in court on Monday.
