Strathmore Scorpions sting KU Titans to move five points clear

Defending champions Strathmore University Scorpions on Saturday moved five points clear at the top of the Kenya Hockey Union women's Premier League after narrowly edging out newbies Kenyatta University 2-1 at City Park.

Grace Bwire and Jeriah Nyanchama struck for the champions who emerged tops in the university derby. Monica Kitui scored KU's consolation goals.

The win moved Scorpions five-points clear off second placed Blazers with 11 points from six matches.

Blazers leapfrogged Lakers and Amira Sailors (both not in action this weekend) after hammering Dutch Flower Group Wolverines 4-0 at the same grounds.

Kenyan international forward Maureen Okumu bagged a brace as Joan Anjao and Chebet Namureng sealed the win for the record champions who are the only side with 100 percent results.

After two matches, Blazers have six pointrs followed by Amira Sailors (5 points) and Lakers from Kisumu (4 points). They howver have a chance to cut Scorpions lead to two points on Sunday when they play Kenyatta University Titans.

In the men's league, Western Jaguars held defending champions Butali Sugar Warriors at Eregi TTC in Kakamega to a 2-2 draw as Strathmore Gladiators played to a barren draw with newly promoted KCA University.

Greensharks also played out to a 2-2 draw against Sikh Union.
