One person has died while six others have sustained injuries after a bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident along the Thika-Garissa Highway.

According to Thika East Sub-County Police Commander Lazarus Wambua who spoke to The Standard, the driver of the ill-fated bus belonging to Northern Cruise Sacco lost control while negotiating a corner, and overturned at Maguguni near Zena petrol station.

One person was killed on the spot while six others were rushed to Thika Level five hospital for treatment.

“At our Casualty department, we received six victims. Four have been treated and are in stable condition while the other two have been taken to theatre for more treatment,” said Thika Level Five medical superintendent Dr Waturi.

An eyewitness told The Standard that Public Service Vehicles which ply the route especially from Kilimambogo to Mwingi move at high speeds, calling upon the NTSA to nip the reckless behavior in the bud.

A police officer stationed at Ngoliba Police Station said that Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has been notified of the “blackspot” area following numerous accidents.

Thika- Garissa Highway was re-carpeted last year after it developed several potholes causing minor accidents and traffic snarl-ups especially as you approach Thika town.
