KANU chairperson Gideon Moi announces George Wainaina as party's Secretary General

The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party has picked George Wainaina as Secretary General replacing Nick Salat who was expelled in February 2023 over allegations of misconduct.

In his new role, Wainaina will supervise policies and programs, write and present reports, as well as keep track of the party's activities among other roles.

The party has also selected Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ibrahim Sheikh and Samburu West MP Naisula as the first and second National Vice Chairperson of the party respectively.

The duo will deputise KANU National chairman Gideon Moi, perform functions and powers assigned to them by the National Executive Council or the National Governing Council.

Others who have also landed leadership roles are; Job Waka who will be the National Executive Director and Gladwell Cheruiyot Tungo who will be the KANU Women Congress National Chairperson.

The announcement was made on Thursday, March 9, after KANU held its Special National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired by National Chairman Gideon Moi.

"Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on your well deserved appointment.The party looks forward to your incredible contribution in streamlining its structure and operations in a bid to raise its national profile ahead of the 2027 general election," said the chairman in a statement.
