Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has changed his tune on the government's service delivery following massive criticism.

He appears to be protecting his senior, resident William Ruto.

Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho on Wednesday, the DP changed his tune saying, President Ruto will serve Kenyans equally, while he will only serve supporters of their political camp.

"Kenya is for all of us regardless of whether you voted for him or not. He will work for all Kenyans. He is the leader of the country, therefore he should work for everyone, while I am the leader of the UDA party, I will continue working for the UDA people," Gachagua said.

Additionally, Gachagua says Ruto will only give state appointments to those who believe in his Bottom-Up economic model.

"The president will also decide on who he appoints as his aide. He will only pick those who believe in the Bottom-Up economic transformation agenda because they are the ones who understand his agenda

"For the country to have progress, he must work with those who share ideologies with him," he added.

Gachagua was criticised by Kenyans on social media following his remarks on who is suitable for appointment in state offices in President William Ruto's administration.

He had declared that top government positions are a preserve only for Ruto supporters who campaigned and voted for Kenya Kwanza in the 2022 presidential poll, and those in the opposition should wait for their time.

He described Ruto's administration as a company of few individuals and has shareholders, whose owners must benefit first.

"Ruto supporters invested in him, they must reap," he said.

Gachagua said some opposition politicians who rejected Ruto are now visiting State House to seek government appointments.
