Schools reopening dates adjusted from Monday, August 15 to Thursday, August 18, Education CS George Magoha announces.

This comes barely a week since CS Magoha revised school reopening dates from Thursday, August 11 to Monday, August 15, 2022.

In a press release dated August 13, the Magoha -led ministry said the move was to pave way for the completion of the tallying process of ballots in the just concluded General Election.

"I hereby convey the Government's decision on the suspension of the re-opening of all Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, August 15, 2022, until Thursday, August 18, 2022," Magoha said.

The ballot tallying process kicked off on Wednesday evening and is expected to be complete by Tuesday next week.

The electoral commission has a timeline of seven days from the day of the election, to declare the winner of the polls.

Last Wednesday, CS Magoha said the changes made earlier on were effected to give room for the completion of ongoing ballot tallying.

"We have however been informed that the process of tallying ballots may still be ongoing on the aforementioned date. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the government's decision that Basic Education institutions will reopen from Monday, August 15," Magoha said in a statement.

However, the tallying process has run into the weekend, a situation which was not anticipated.
