Machakos is prepared for Covid-19 worst case scenario — Alfred Mutua

Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Thursday reiterated that his county is ready to handle Covid-19 as it already has 463 isolation beds in place.

Mutua added that he intends to add a few more to get to 700 especially since a number of cases have already been reported in Mavoko Sub-county.

“I am concerned with the rising numbers of Covid-19 positive cases in my region, and especially in Mavoko Sub County which accounts for about 90% of all positive cases. We are taking measures to slow down the spread of the virus.

“I am lucky to have the best health staff in the whole country. They are motivated, focused and work as a team to provide quality health care to all. You make me proud. You have made Machakos, Truly, the place to be,” he said.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday maintained that airlifting of Covid-19 patients from other counties to Nairobi will not happen due to bed space.

Speaking during a press briefing in Makueni County, Kagwe emphasized the need for counties to upgrade their health care since the projections indicate that Nairobi might be overwhelmed in the next few weeks.

“All counties except five have reported COVID-19 cases. It will just be a matter of time before all counties are affected.

“We must take action to limit the spread failure to which our healthcare facilities risk being overwhelmed,” he said.

Adding: “There will be no airlifting of people from other counties to Nairobi since it will not have the capacity. Where we are heading is so unpredictable.”
