Presidential escort personnel banned from chewing miraa, muguka

All presidential escort personnel and civilians have been barred from chewing miraa and Muguka.

The announcement was made by the Head of the Presidential Escort unit, George Kirera, who asserted that chewing miraa and muguka not only posed a health risk to the presidential escort officers, but also their families.

Through a notice, Kirera said that all prescort personnel and civilians residing within camps would not be allowed to chew the substances effective July 6, 2020.

“Please be informed that it has been noted with high level of concern by this office that chewing miraa and muguka is posing a lot of health risk to our personnel and their families," read part of the notice.

“Therefore, with effect from July 6, 1400 hrs no prescort personnel or civilian residing within the camps will be allowed to chew miraa or muguka within the camps or work station,” read part of the notice.

The notice further stated that personnel breaching the directives will be held responsible and face severe administrative action.

“The OC camps and all section heads will be held responsible for breach of these directives. Severe administrative active will be taken against any defaulter, “read the notice.
