The Standard Media Group has partnered with Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) to allow teachers access a subsidised educational content through the group's digital platforms.
Part of the agreement will see the more than 300,000 teachers access the Standard e-paper products daily at Sh20.
This means teachers will be able to access all daily and weekend editions of The Standard newspaper, The Nairobian and other publications.
The Standard is the flagship product of the Standard Group.
Its reach cuts across all market segments with loyal readership among Kenyans. Its niche products are with Kenyan youths.
Teachers will also be able to access pull-outs like My Health, Pulse, Financial Standard, Hustle, and Sunday Magazine at a subsidised rate.
Teachers will also access KTN Home, KTN News, BTV and Farmers TV.
Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion said the partnership is a major boost for teachers who are presently at home.
“We encourage teachers to have smart phones so that they can read all education material and news through the Standard which is made available to them every day by midnight,” said Sossion.
He said the pandemic has afforded teachers more time at home that they can use to read and also boost their grasp on current affairs.
“Teachers must always be well informed and this is through reading all educational and informative content,” said Sossion.
He said teachers will no longer have an excuse for not being ahead on news and information.
“We urge The Standard to use the platform to sensitise teachers on the effects of Covid-19, Competency Based Curriculum (CBC)and other matters that affect teachers,” said Sossion.
Group Chief Executive Officer Orlando Lyomu said the partnership with Knut is part of the bigger education sector agenda for the media house.

“We are deliberately focusing on education because it impacts all families and the economy,” said Orlando.
He said the Standard has already launched an online learning platform dubbed Tutor-Soma Tu, to enable students continue with learning at home during COVID19 pandemic.
The platform facilitates learning for both primary and secondary school students by offering learning materials from the Ministry of Education and also enabling teachers to upload additional learning material for their pupils.
“We are now stretching the partnership to persons who deliver education content and these are the teachers. And we are expanding this to the benefit of teachers and students,” said Orlando.
