Murkomen reveals what Ruto told him after his ouster

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday revealed that he talked to Deputy President William Ruto hours after his ouster as Senate Majority Leader.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Murkomen stated that DP Ruto told him all great people must go through fire and challenges will make him better.

“I spoke to the Deputy President today and these are his own words, every great person must go through fire and he gave me a list of the things they went through with the President

“He reminded me that he and the President (Uhuru) were taken to the Hague and reminded me the time we went around praying for them to be released from the Hague,” stated Murkomen.

Adding: “He said that this is a small problem for me compared to the monumental one him and the President faced in ICC and the same time elections…”

Further, Murkomen maintained that as per the law he is still the majority leader.

The senator and his counterpart from Nakuru Susan Kihika were replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio (Majority Leader) and Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata (Majority Chief Whip).

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka stated that he was satisfied that the changes were in accordance with the standing orders and met the threshold.

“I'm satisfied that the changes were made in accordance with senate standing order 19. 1, 2, 3, 40, 5 and 7 and meets the threshold required under standing order. 19.

“(5) there having been a majority of votes, changes shall now take effect as follows: Senate Majority Leader Senator Samuel Poghisio, Senate Majority Whip Senator Irungu Kang’ata, and Senate Deputy Majority Chief Whip senator Haji Farhiya, “said Lusaka.

The Senate Speaker also alluded to the fact that 20 senators attended the State House meeting that was chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta who is Jubilee Party leader.

“The minutes show that 20 Senators attended the meeting and resolved unanimously to: Remove the current leader of majority Senator Kipchumba Murkomen in accordance with the standing order 19, 5.
