Police in Makueni are investigating a bizarre incident where an 18-year-old girl from Uviluni Village, Nzaui, was found murdered and her eyes gouged by unknown assailants.

The Form Three student at Mbeletu Secondary School is reported to have left home at around 3 pm to Kwa-Mutula market only for her lifeless body to be found dumped by the roadside leading to the same market.

"Her mother reported to the area chief that her daughter went missing after visiting the market. Together with members of Nyumba Kumi, they embarked on searching for her where she was later found dead along Mbeletu road," reads in part the police report from Nzaui Sub-County Police Commander.

Her body was discovered at around 7 pm during the start of curfew hours

On conducting physical observation of the body, the police said that she died of excessive bleeding from the wounds which were inflicted by deep machete cuts.

The killing happened during the period students went home following the closure of schools due to Covid-19 fears.

The body was collected yesterday night by police officers from Mbenuu Police Post and taken to Makindu Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
