Tuskys Supermarket on Saturday notified the public that they
will be limited to buying a maximum of three packs of hand sanitisers,
antiseptic and bleach liquids.
This is after the operators of the supermarket noticed
increased bulk purchases.
Some customers are said to have taken advantage of the
COVID-19 panic to resell the items at outrageous prices right outside their
doors.
“Following increased bulk purchases on hand sanitisers,
antiseptic and bleach liquids, Tusker Mattresses Limited (TML) the operators of
Tuskys Supermarkets, has this morning adopted a limited purchases policy.
“Each customer will only be allowed to purchase a maximum of
three (3) packs of the respective products,” read the statement in part.
Adding: “All our key suppliers have been providing immense
support and have dispatched sufficient stocks for the products across our
branch network.
“Kindly co-operate with our shop floor teams.”
On Friday, the supermarket, through CEO Dan Githua assured
the public that it had enough supplies and the panic was unnecessary.
It also dispelled fears that commodity prices would shoot.
“We have enough in-country stocks and manufacturing capacity
to service local demand,” said Githua.
The internet was awash with photos of shoppers who flooded
various malls to stock up after Kenya announced its first case of Coronavirus.
Some of the shoppers who talked to Ureport stated that they
were afraid supermarkets would run out of stock since some countries which
export commodities to Kenya had announced cancellation of flights and had
temporarily locked their borders.
