Man kills self, leave six-page suicide note

A 37-year old man has left residents of Zamzam area in Likoni in a shock after he, apparently, hanged himself outside his rental house on Friday and left behind a six-page suicide note addressed to friends, relatives and doctors.

But police insist that only investigations will determine whether the deceased committed suicide. Likoni police boss Jane Munywoki said detectives were exploring different angles to establish the motive of the death.

By yesterday an autopsy had not been conducted because his family had not arrived from upcountry.

"The DCI officers have commenced investigation and we are also waiting for an autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death," said Munywoki on Friday.

Locals woke up to a dangling body of Mr Kelvin Majiwa discovered by a neighbour at around 6.00am. The neighbour last met the deceased on Thursday when the deceased, allegedly, fumed over mounting problems.

Next to the corpse on a table is an apparent suicide note written on various pieces of paper. According to the purported note Majiwa who lived alone and hails from Siaya County had expressed "frustrations from close family members."

 Neighbours came to his house early to check on him knowing him as an early riser and in light of his pathetic mood the previous evening.

In the note the deceased refers to his brother and family as uncooperative to him since he has been ailing, but he could not specify what kind of illnesses he was battling with.

"Hamisi can tell you how my family has been very uncooperative since I have been sick, my brother and his family spent well sh 60,000 on them to settle his house arrears for eight months, “reads the note.

The deceased further accused his brother saying he travelled over 500 kilometers from Migori to Kisumu squandering the money and never to bothered sending him a single cent yet he knew he was ill.

"He never sent me even a single cent yet I have been sick," he said in the note.

The man accused the brother saying he had good job and yet while he was employed he used to help him but now he had ignored him.

The man also thanked his close friends whom he put their phone numbers for helping him while he was staying in the plot.

He further thanked three doctors for their assistance.

Justus Omondi, a neighbour said he has known the deceased for the last one year and yesterday, before he went to sleep, he revealed to him that he could not withstand anymore as family has rejected him.

"He told me he needed urgent medication but he had no money ,the family he depends on have ignored him," Omondi said.

Ken Matinde, who had been mentioned in the list as a close friend by the deceased, said he tried councelling him many times.

Matinde said the deceased had revealed to him that his wife left him after he was sacked by his employer telling him that he was not of his class.

"He accused Family members and his wife who left him after he lost his job, the man was depressed I have tried my best to talk to him ,I could not imagine he could hang himself," said Matinde.

Likoni police boss Jane Munywoki said they were looking at different angles to establish the motive of the death.

The body was taken to coast general mortuary.
