Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that the club is ready for new signings in the January transfer window.

Solskjaer admits that the current young players are talented but he is keen to deepen his squad and could act during the mid-season window.

"We are looking to strengthen in many positions. If you look at our squad compared to the others, we are getting there but we still need two or three players to have enough numbers to rotate through a long season.

"So we'll see what we sign,” Solskjaer said at his post-match news conference after a comfortable win against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Solskjaer stressed he has a talent in Mason Greenwood and will be happy to use frequently on the big stage irrespective of new players.

"He played against Tottenham and was class. I'm not afraid of playing him in the Premier League," he added.

Teenage striker Greenwood scored twice as United hammered AZ Alkmaar 4-0.

After a goalless first half Man United turned on the style, opening the scoring with a brilliantly-worked goal from Ashley Young before Greenwood netted either side of a Juan Mata penalty.

The win secured Group L victory for the Red Devils, and despite the defeat, their Dutch opponents have also made it through after finishing second, one point ahead of Partizan Belgrade who beat FC Astana 4-1.
