Brutal murder: Woman’s body found in hotel, throat slit

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched investigations into the murder of a 28-year-old woman in a guest house within Wote town, Makueni County.

The woman only identified as Joyce was a casual employee at Central Guest House in Wote town.

According to her colleague, Dominic Mburu, Joyce reported to work on Sunday at 9 am for her day shift as usual.

“I was serving the night shift on Saturday, so she reported to work on Sunday morning around 9 am to replace me,” Mburu told the Standard.

Mburu said that what happened between the time Joyce reported to work and 5:30 pm remains a mystery.

The victim was found brutally murdered with the body lying on the bed in one of the rooms in the guest house.

Mburu narrated a gore picture of the scene. Walls and the floor covered in blood showed evidence of how Joyce struggled for her life.

Makueni Sub-County Police Commander Timothy Maina confirmed the killing in a police report noting that she had her throat split.

“The lady was found with a big cut on the throat. A kitchen knife handle was found under her head with blood having scattered all over the room,” he said in a statement.

Investigations by the Standard have revealed that for the period the woman worked in the guest house reception, not even her boss knew her two names and she had neither provided identification documents.

The body was moved to Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary as DCI officers intensified investigations into the incident.
