Boy, 8, emotionally pleads with Kenyans to help Pokot landslide victims

When Kinsley Kimutai, a grade two pupil at a private school in Eldoret watched the crying kids on KTN 7pm news last Sunday after the deadly landslides hit West Pokot, he was disturbed.

Kimutai, who is a pupil at the Roy academy suggested to his father, Isaac Burgei, to make a donation to help West Pokot victims of landslide and floods.

“I asked my father about what happened to the half-naked kids. He told me that their houses had been swept away by floods,” said Kinsley.

He narrated that the wailing children tormented his mind overnight. He wondered how to reach out to at least assist the stranded.

“I told my mum (Caroline Burgei), the following morning that she was going to donate unused clothes in the house to the suffering children,” he narrated.

Kinsley, who is on his holiday went ahead meeting his fellow friends and schoolmates in Elgon view estate in Eldoret where he got a positive response.

“My mum accepted but what we had in our house was not enough to be taken to the affected victims,” said Kinsley.

According to Kinsley father, Isaac Burgei, his son was uncomfortable after watching the news though he never took him seriously.

“I observed him that evening and he was not well and persistently asked of how the victims can be assisted,” said Mr Burgei.

He added, “My son was already getting some items. This touched my heart. I felt his emotion towards the victims,” he said.

Burgei added due to constant pressure from his son, he approached some of his close friends to contribute.

So far the family has received bundles of clothes, foodstuffs including 100 kilogrammes of sugar, 450 Kilogrammes of flour among other basic necessities.

Kinsley alongside his father and mother are now looking forward to handing them next week to the victims in West Pokot.
