Two robbery suspects escape from cells in morning drama

Two suspects held in police cells over robbery with violence escaped from Ruiru police station in a morning drama.

The two, identified as Dennis Atiwa Atenya and Wycliff Kori Achola, are said to have wrestled one police officer who was on duty at the cells Wednesday morning before they climbed a wall and escaped.

This was after Achola had reportedly asked two officers on duty to escort him to a latrine within the station.

According to police, the suspect turned violent when he was being escorted back to the cells and was joined by the second one.

They then pushed the officer to the ground and pinned him down before they escaped on foot. The duo climbed the station wall and jumped over to another premise.

The officer raised alarm as the suspects escaped but no arrest was made.

Both of them had been charged with robbery with violence and were brought to the station ahead of the hearing of their case that was set for yesterday.

They had been arrested through the Githurai Kimbo Police command in September this year.

A hunt was launched in the area proved unsuccessful. Various authorities have been put on alert to hunt down the suspects.
