Prison break: Two robbery suspects escape cell

Two suspects held in police cells at Ruiru Police station over robbery with violence escaped yesterday morning.

The two identified as Dennis Atiwa Atenya and Wycliff Kori Achola are said to have wrestled one police officer who was on duty before vanishing.

This was after two other police officers had escorted Achola to the toilet within the station at about 6am.

According to police, the suspect turned violent when he was being escorted back to the cells and the two took advantage to wrestle the other officer before jumping over the wall to their freedom.

They had been arrested through Githurai Kimbo police command in September this year.

Both had been charged with robbery with violence and were to be arraigned yesterday.

Authorities say they have launched a manhunt for the two. Various authorities have been put on alert to hunt down the suspects.
