Ministry of Defence issues statement over shot motorcyclist

The Ministry of Defence has issued a statement absolving itself of blame over a shooting incident that left a motorcyclist dead on Wednesday morning.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Defence seen by The Standard Digital states that an unidentified motorcyclist was shot dead as he intruded by forcefully trying to gain entry into the Kenya Navy’s Lt. Colonel Kimaro Estate at around 6:00 am.

“The motorcyclist was flagged down by sentries to identify himself, but forcefully proceeded towards the main gate at a high speed even after a warning shot was fired,” the statement read in part.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the soldiers on guard duties were forced to intervene, though it was not their intention to kill him.

‘’This prompted one of the soldiers on guard duties to fire two direct shots at the intruder in an attempt to immobilise him but he succumbed to his injuries," read the statement signed by P.M. Njuguna Colonel Public Affairs.

All relevant agencies have begun an inquest to establish the deceased’s motives to forcefully enter the estate.

Afterwards, the public reacted by questioning the motive and identity of the motorcyclist who died of bullets wounds.
