Aflatoxin can wait – KEBS shy away from meeting

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, postponed a meeting to address the high levels of aflatoxins in food.

The KEBS Managing Director allegedly held a meeting with the Attorney General after which they were supposed to address the nation on KEBS’s plan of action.

This was followed closely by Kenyans who took to social media to express their rage toward KEBS who they accused of being ignorant.

“Nonsense!!! Where have they been!!” Ochieng Fanuel.

“These people have been lying to us cancer is a result of using microwaves kumbe they are giving us aflatoxin” complained Frank Ephem Muthoka.

The Standards Bureau in early November banned several different types of maize flour which they claimed had high levels of aflatoxins.

In the wake of the discovery, KEBS urged Kenyans to be vigilant and report when they encounter substandard products.

“We encourage the general public to be on the lookout and inform KEBS upon encountering any products suspected to be substandard,” said KEBS.
