Police recover pistol, 176 bullets stolen from Kitale businessman

Police in Trans Nzoia have recovered a pistol, 176 rounds of ammunition and arrested three suspects following last week’s robbery at the home of a businessman.

In what police believed was an inside job, the businessman lost a beretta pistol, three magazines and other items including electronics from his home.

Trans Nzoia County Commander Ayub Ali while displaying the recovered items said it was a breakthrough as officers took swift action in search of the gun.

Ali said officers working on a tip-off from the public managed to recover the gun from a rental room at Lavington Estate.

"The loss of the gun and the three magazines containing the ammunition was a security threat and it is laudable that my officers managed to recover it. We were able to nab prime suspects in the robbery we believe was inside job," Ali told reporters.

The officer cautioned traders to vet those they want to recruit to ensure they employed honest individuals.

“We are advising employers to vet the people they want to recruit. They need to know their background to avoid employing dangerous characters," said Ali.

Accompanied by County Criminal Investigation Officer Grace Mauklupe, Ali warned unscrupulous businessmen in Kitale who buy and sell stolen property.

"We are probing some business people who promote robberies taking place in the area by buying and selling stolen property. Individuals collaborating with criminals will face the full force of the law," he warned.

He said burglary has become rampant in the area but vowed that officers are on the watch to tame the vice.
